Julie told:

This candy is in a beautiful cognac colour paper. Often, we get stuck in the appearance. It pleases immediately, etc. And only then do you look at what is hidden. However, making a decision to accept someone is based on the exterior. This used to be me, too. That I put a lot of emphasis on how I appear to others. Perhaps since I am a foreigner, I don’t know. I have realised that the recent relationships – I have been single for three years – were very much about this. People don’t want to work on relationships and so they get fed up with them – until certain age. The candy also symbolises addiction to a quick pleasure, like sugar addiction. But life doesn’t offer us only good things. It requires inner strength to find balance. I have always accepted myself, but I have started to value different things now.

And I brought this book. This is love, warmth and knowledge. I want to continue with this knowledge to learn to know myself.

About the project in Estonia

Artist Alana Proosa photographed objects brought by the participants. These objects symbolised something to leave behind and something to bring to the future. These objects are accompanied by accounts told by the interviewees.
