Jack told:
I took [the alarm clock] as a symbol of the [Soviet Russian] era I come from. We all know […] how homosexual people were treated then. […] As a consequence, I have had to suppress my desires. And subsequently, my attitudes have also been relatively not the best. And my father was also very conservative, and he wouldn't have accepted it at all. And that's why I've been stuck with these thoughts that, well, I've got to live with a woman and have a family. And well, would I dare to go out on the street with my true love, holding hands? […] I dont’ know! That’s a problem I would like to leave behind.
This is a newer clock. I’d like to bring with me freedom of these heavy thoughts of the past. I want to feel freer.
About the project in Estonia
Artist Alana Proosa photographed objects brought by the participants. These objects symbolised something to leave behind and something to bring to the future. These objects are accompanied by accounts told by the interviewees.
